Clause 445 of the WHS Regulation states ” a person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure that workers engaged by the person, whom the person reasonably believes may be involved in asbestos removal work or in the carrying out of asbestos-related work, are trained in the identification and safe handling of, and suitable control measures for, asbestos and ACM.”

Organisations can face a maximum penalty of $30,000.

It is important organisations conduct a risk assessment of the asbestos related activities workers are carrying out and provide workers with appropriate training. Depending on the activity carried out by workers Asbestos Awareness training may be more suitable.

Advance OHS is now accredited by both ASQA and WorkCover to conduct the Asbestos Removal Course for Workers – Non Friable (CPCCDE3014A). This course is ideal for workers wishing to work in the construction or demolition industry with a particular focus on Asbestos Removal. It is a legal requirement that all workers undertaking asbestos removal work or asbestos related work undergo the correct training.
